Pop Culture: Hedwig, Marina, Masquerade, Robert, and Elaine

The world is sometimes just too cool for words. Okay, my computer is officially freaking out because there are TWO gifs in one post, so I need to stop typing or it'll crash or something disastrous like that

Watch Out: Marina and the Diamonds

I've been a fan of le incroyable Marina Diamandis since I heard her song "Radioactive" playing in Loehmann's sometime last year. I love pretty much everything about her--her clothes: Her songs:
--Primadonna (best one ever):
--Oh No (already on blog, click here to see post with video)
--I Am Not a Robot
--Radioactive (not to be confused with another song of that same title, by the ever-famous Imagine Dragons)
--Teen Idle
--How to Be a Heartbreaker (I was never really a big fan of this song, and then when it went mainstream and was on Glee and all that... but snaps to you if you like it, I suppose)
That's all I can really remember right now. I just wanted to say that Marina Diamandis is one of the coolest people right now, and if she gets popular after I write this (like MKTO did; see my post), well, you'll already know her and all her repertoire. Now, if you'll excuse me, I must go to watch Moonrise Kingdom. Adieu!

Spirit Music

This easy--but haunting--song in my piano book that I thought was cool. For all my fellow piano players... enjoy, my friends!
Cool! It's a CAPTION.

Mouthing Off

The infamous Pac-Man mouth, followed by some Smash Mouth wisdom. One of these days (when I finish those stupid journal entries for S.S., cough cough, procrastinating), I'm going to make a list of some schnazzy quotes. Possible candidates: Walt Whitman, Liesel Meminger from The Book Thief, Roberto Benigni, and even MORE Holden Caulfield, because y'all just can't get enough of this guy. Seriously, everyone, while you're waiting for Allegiant to come out (if you don't know what I'm talking about, I disown you. After you get over the initial shame of this, look it up, please), read The Catcher in the Rye and we can have a meeting over coffee--nah, hot chocolate with paper umbrellas from the Chinese restaurant--and discuss it like the mature, well-read individuals that we aren't. Well, I'm pumped for this! Anyway. Smash Mouth!
Walking out of the door I'm on my way, can you tell me just where I'm going?
Occupational skills, would you give me a clue what to do cause my minds in motion?
Just trying to relax, I find myself on the couch with big plans but there's always tomorrow
Is something wrong with me or the way that I'm thinking?
Come on, come on and tell me why you're staring
Come on, come on... it must be what I'm wearing
Come on, come on and tell me why's it taking so long for you to recognize and stop
Another day in the sun, I'm having fun feel the heat sneaking up on me
I take a look in the sky, a plane goes by, is that the reason that I can't breathe?
I take a look and I wonder why, why these birds don't fly
It's hard for me to see and I believe my oh my...

Bombs Away Playlist

This sort of has a double meaning, seeing as Bombs Away is a song that I really really like, but I'm reflecting--a little late, okay--on the whole bombing scene at the Boston marathon on Monday. I'm not going to go into how sad and crazy the whole fiasco really was, and I'm instead going to put forth a new playlist to, well, capture all them feelings for me! Hope you guys enjoy and comment on your thoughts about the song selections, the bombings, or the epic guitar solos.

Playing the Piano

A different kind of playlist today! These are songs that I can play/am aspiring to play on le piano, which I've recently fallen in love with. Sorry, guitar! But we don't need another guitarist in "THE BAND," so I guess a keyboardist would be pretty handy. Anyways, here y'are! Heyyy, today a new and terribly convenient contraction was made--y'are. I'm surprised no one came up with it before, but sometimes there's no hope for humanity.

Top 5 Reasons Why Glee Season 4 is Jumping the Shark

Howdy folks!
The air is heavy and tense.
You could probably cut a knife through it.
You could literally shove it in the air, and the air would move.
Why is the air so stifling with tension?
Because there is one everpresent question on our minds.
Because every single person who reads this blog knows about this certain thing that I will soon speak of.
What is the question?
Ah, yes.
WHY IS GLEE SO DISAPPOINTING THIS SEASON?!
Sniff.
Glad to get that one off my chest.
Anyways, you guys, all you Gleeks will probably hate me for this and not sticking up for our show of choice (besides Seinfeld, Touch, Project Runway, and Modern Family, dur), but this needed to be said. Glee's really not even that good anymore. I will now proceed to list the factors that contribute to the letdown show that is so ridiculously called "Glee," where 'glee' is certainly not the emotion that we're feeling as we watch. Please, no assassins after you read this! I've got a forcefield! Also, in an attempt to keep you all from getting murderous, the writing is written in rainbow colors. This may or may not guarantee my safety and your positive mental health. The first ombre blog post!
5~~KITTY.
Everyone hates Kitty because she's a total bully and a phony, except maybe Puck, which is pretty gross, actually. In fact, Puck's pretty gross as a whole. What's he doing back at WMHS? He doesn't belong there; he's entirely too old! I'm pretty surprised he didn't repeat senior year with Brittany! But anyway, Kitty's super mean. She convinced Marley to become bulimic, she attempted to steal Jake from Marley, and she thinks that Quinn and Santana are at her level of, quote-unquote, "awesomeness." Grr.
4~~THE MUSIC CHOICES.
So I remember the good old days, when Glee used to sing songs that didn't come from the past few months. Like Gangnam Style? At SECTIONALS? Are you CRAZY? That's what you get for making Finn the teacher. But now it seems like the only songs they since are either really slow and boring, or really recent and pop-y, and I'm sure those of us with a great music repertoire will agree with me. Like, will a little classic rock or rap kill you? Can't they just branch out like they used to? I think we should just all write a petition telling Glee all the GOOD songs they should be singing! Who's with I?
3~~THE CONSTANCE.
There's not really much else to say about this particular category, other than how annoying it is that Glee keeps on being like, "Whoops! Looks like we're gonna skip another SEVENTY NAZZILLION WEEKS until the show comes back on. Hee hee!" It's terribly annoying. Is it that they're running out of ideas to fill up the show time? I don't know, but I don't like it.
2~~THE MEANNESS.
Why is everyone so harsh to one another? I wish they'd all just stick up for each other like they used to, like they were all FRIENDS, rather than biting their heads off. I mean, c'mon guys! Act like you're actually in a glee club! Where's the sense of unity? It's rather depressing, actually.
1~~THE CHARACTERS.
What's to be said? The best characters are gone (Quinn, Mike, Santana, Kurt--sorta--and Mercedes), and new ones that have no substances except to flirt with Marley have taken their places. Why?! This reason alone pretty much ruins the whole idea of Glee-is-the-best-show-ever that we agreed upon when season 3 ended. Where can we place our allegiance nowwww? *dramatic wail* At least Artie's still here, otherwise...
I'm sorry for the rant, it went a little out of hand, but I think I proved my point.
Smiles, rainbows, and Ouran Highschool Host Club,

AYO UP HIGH fo' 2013

Welcome, dearest amigos, to the magical wonderland we call "2013", where the so-called rapper Key Dollar-sign Ha writes slow ballads chock full of autotune, like that's supposed to enhance the mood or something (um... at least she tried?) and the world is (so far) not destined to end... whatever, some ol' quack will probably declare it the end of the world sometime in May. It happens, we get over it. Hopefully (hint, hint, folks) we will be exiting the realm of "swag", the irrelevant "YOLO", and the whole mobscene of One Direction.
Today in Spanish we had to write our resolutions for the new year in our handy-dandy cuadernos de español, and I started to write about my running goals, and suddenly! I had an epiphany! Well, not really. More like a scoff over humans these days. I thought to myself, hey, it's great that we're willing to get stuff done and have a successful year for ourselves, but if we REALLY want to change what we're doing, I think we shouldn't have to wait until January. Like Earth Day, we should be improving our lives RANDOMLY, not only on a specific day where half of us won't even follow through with our resolutions throughout the year anyway. What's the point? How about we just try to modify whenever modification is necessary? It'd be much more approachable like that. So here are my RIGHT-NOW resolutions, which have nothing to do with the new year except, ya know, everyone wants to hear about goals for the upcoming 12 months anyway. So here we are! Sorry for the Jenna Marbles-esque rant... 130
1. I would like to definitely run every single weekend without skipping unless I have legitimately NO time in my schedule to run. Wish me luck on that one, folks!
2. I would like to spend less time mindlessly playing Sudoku and Minesweeper (I know, I'm a major geek who may have puzzle issues). For real! You can lightly tap me with your elbow if you see me doing this...
3. I would like to eat more produce, because according to the Tarahumara, that is a major food staple that's great for running and, dur, overall health. And also eat more salads that aren't bland.
4. I would like to create a sewing area in my room and periodically rearrange my furniture because I *cough* may have a slight attention-span problem.
5. I would like to work on my Italian skills, because the Gekottys got a brand-spanking new Rosetta Stone Italian kit-thang that I really haven't been doing anything with. Oh, me. What if we  move to Italy on a whim then, huh? And we don't even know Italian? Prob-lem.
6. I would like to cook stuff that isn't only dessert or peanut butter and Nutella or mac n' cheese, enough said, yeah?
That's about all I can think of! Be sure to share your resolutions through comments, and enjoy your new year!

The Mrs. F Song

Welcome, friends and foes! Hopefully no foes though. The other day in school (Friday, to be exact), me and fellow writer/commenter/Polyvorer PAHM wrote and performed a heartfelt song to our amazing language arts teacher, Mrs. F, for a Christmas present. The caring PAHM had actually bought a splendid bracelet for Mrs. F, but had left it at home, so during Enrichment, we got to work. Here are the lyrics to the catchy ditty, and I'm sure y'all will be singing along pretty soon! Old Frecklebrains said his ears were bleeding rainbow jellies of sadness and despair, but who listens to him? Note to PAHM and Little Miss Oreo: he actually said "aaaaaahhh!", ya know, the signature noise.
This song is to the tune of Don't Stop Believin' by Journey. Give us feedback, prettay please!
                                                         THE MRS. F SONG
Just a fabulous teacher
Born and raised somewhere around heeeere (actually on the same street as me)
She took the after-school train going to J. Crew (it's her favorite store)

Teaches at                     School
Her students think she's really cool
She's the trendiest girl in the whole wide world (such a fashionable girl!)

(This is the part where MC G-bags and PAHM attempted to make a rap for me)
It all started at the field trip when we gossiped at the table (that's when our daily gossip sessions all started)
Then we found out that we were able
To do something as awesome as a fable *fable fable fable* (getting lower, end of rap)

Don't stop
The snowflakes
They're made out of popsicle stiiiicks
We helped you out by cutting the
Yearbook piiiiics *guitar noise*

After all that jazz, we went through a few more raps and verses about the infamous love square (I'll try to make a post all about that later, but it'll be tricky, and I think all my schoolmates except me and Jack are getting tired of it) which I forget, and ended the song heroically with a "MRS. F!" and a toss of the song paper into the air a la Glee's version of Misery. It was great! See y'all later.

News Update: Life In General

Soooo, everyone! I don't aim to (heh! I sound so Southern--is that what they look like where you come from in the South? LOL Santana and Glee referencing! Tess, Amour, Jezebel, and PAHM) bore you with stats of the election and Hurricane Sandy aka Frankenstorm (which approx. NO% of everyone called it, by the way, so Steph--swan--was right!), but I just didn't want there to be any sort of missing link in the chronicle that is my life--hint, hint to all you aspiring biography writers out there...
So, y'all! After Sandy came, we were out of power for a few hours shy of a whole entire week, with no generator or nothin' because my dad was on a business trip in Chicago. My days were spent working ferociously on a 1000-piece puzzle of Times Square that is positioned on the dining-room table so that everyone's all like, "Hurry it up already! We. Want. To. Eat!" but they can just eat at the kitchen island, can't they? I also stuck stickers onto index cards and tore them off again--which totally ruined the adhesive part and was extraordinarily sad--and watched Billy Elliot on the portable DVD player (curse you, grainy screen), and debated whether or not I should work on my book report, which was due today, but decided that I write better under pressure (what a lie, ha) so I waited until last week and banged it all out then. Heh. I did it on The Kite Runner, which is definitely on my favorite-books list. Y'all should read it! So that was the exciting week that I had. But THEN! My dad was our hero! He decided to rent a minivan and drive alllll the way from Chicago to our town, which I think took about 14 hours, without stopping at a hotel or anything, because his flight into La Guardia was canceled. Cue epiphany music. Or just this.
Of course, Halloween was canceled too, so I spent this long waited-for day eating leftover Halloween candy and walking to the library to check out both volumes of Season 2 of Glee with Jezebel, where we declared we were being utterly unsocial. Also, do not be led to think that The Wiz is not a good movie, even though it has MJ in it.
Look forward to a craft post or sumthin' soon! Au revoir. Have a lovely life. Note to Shannie-Deer: "I thought we were taking Canadian French...!" Oh, Marvin. Yes, Amour. His name is Marvin.

Obviously, A Schmoyoho Video That I Simply Must Post

I have the lyrics and chords too, if anyone ELSE falls in love with this song... sigh.
Link --> --> Songify This--Can't Hug Every Cat

And here are the lyrics and chords, because you love them. And this song. Because the Gregory Brothers + Sarah (I had to google her name; how embarrassing) are uh-mazing.

Intro: C G D

         G D
I love cats, i love every kind of cat
         G D
I just wanna hug all them, but i can't
                 C G D
Can't hug every cat, can't hug every cat
So anyway

       C
I'm a cat lover and i love to run -
     G D
I'm sorry - i'm thinking about cats again
               C G
I really love cats, i'm thinking about cats again
                 D
And again, and again, and again, and again

   C
I think about how many of them don't have a home
     Am D Am D
And how i should have them
   Am
I think about how cute they are
And how their ears
And the whiskers in the nose

         C Am
I just love them, and i want them
       G
And i want them in a basket
And i want little bow ties
         C
I just love them, and i want them
             G
To be on a rainbow and in my bed
    D C
And i just want us to roll around
(to roll around, round, round, round)

Sewing the Gap.

Oh my gawsh, guys! I'm so sorry!
I haven't posted in AGES. Centuries, almost!
Sad story: one of my friends (cough cough, Amour) actually said they forgot about my blog 'cause I never posted, and honestly? I don't blame her at all. I guess I was just taking that fabled "break" that I always blabbered on about. Well, OK. Enough of this. Again, I'm terribly sorry about not blogging (un-blogging?) and I hope we'll all be getting back in the groove, through no fault of everyone else's!
Sooo. . . California! That week was the BEST. We first stopped at a somewhat-lousy Sheraton in San Diego after the looooong flight (which was made tolerable by the delicious Auntie Anne's almond  pretzels that my parents bought for us three kids), where we slept on disagreeable pullout couches with the bars pressing uncomfortably into our backs (SEINFELD! TESS!). And for breakfast? Underwhelming croissants from Starbucks as the five of us argued over the two chairs and the TABLE of our hotel room. The TABLE.
Yes, I admit that I'm a hotel snob.
But anyway, we traveled through San Diego and L.A. (we saw Michael Jackson's star! Happy dance) which was just peachy, but then we came to SAN. FRAN. CISCO. . . cue the epiphany music. It rocked. Seriously, y'all, it just rocked. Let's just start off by saying it was total jeans weather, which you guys know I love, so it was all fall-y and cosmopolitan, but the fashion! OH GOD, THE FASHION!!* (Whee! My first footnote! Hah.) While in my glorious San Franciscan hotel room, Griffin and Father watching Gator Boys uh-gain and Mother took some "alone time" aka shopping at Macy's and Ross, I sketched some fashions and made a list of San Francisco high-fashion dos and don'ts, which I'll enclose later on (maybe next post?). But the main verdicts of awesomeness? Tights. And studded stuff. But HECK YA, the tights fashions were AWESOME, guys! Sorry for using so many caps, but they were a-w-e-s-o-m-e. I love San Francisco so much. And another seriously cool part? For all you Robin Williams fans out there--we actually went to the house of Mrs. Doubtfire and the lovable Hillard family consisting of Lydia, Christopher, and Natalie!!!!
... even though I was a tad... shall we say cautious and refused to lean on the railings like Mom and Dad wanted me to, I swear it was still a magical moment.
I think this is all I'm going to post for now. Again, so sorry about the little break that I took; I'm back now, so everyone start blogging! Tess, Emily and Nicole, your blogs look great and, well, tessiloveyourlittleknapsackcontraptionsoooomuch. Adieu.
*Jezebel... this is a spinoff of a Chris Colfer quote and Glee reference, which you should be quite familiar with!

Clueless About the Olympics--What's Up With That?

HAPPY SUMMER OLYMPICS, 2012!!! I feel annoyed at myself because during the 2008 Summer Olympics, I was pretty much monitoring everything that all the gymnasts and runners did (even before I started track), and this year? I didn't even know the Olympics were in London! I used to have this old tape recorder that I basically idolized when I was about 8 or 9, and my neighbor and I would just use it nonstop. It was actually my mom's for work interviews (sorry about that one, Mom! Or as I would say AFK--away from keyboard--"BUSTED!"), but being a sneaky little kid, I probably used reverse psychology or something to deviously get Mom to "loan" it to me...
So anyway, I would sing these crazy songs with my neighbor, most of them comprising, "My brother is stinky, sooooo stinky, aaand plus he smell-ell-ells" as 8-year-old girls love to broadcast, but they were quite fun to write! Then we would go into my backyard and throw water balloons at each other and stuff, but the point of the story was that I adored that tape recorder. Then my neighbor and her family moved to... ("where was it again, Mom? Oh yeah, right. Thanks!") India for the year, so I started to use it for myself. I watched almost every part of the Olympics that I could and recorded them with my dad (who was texting on the bed or something, LOL) and a month-old little brother who cried every time he heard the Olympics song (link here: brings back memories, right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOBcACUD_Cs). Here's the one thing I really remember--there were a TON of car commercials! I mean, c'mon, people. How many 8-year-olds you know are buying Acuras and Maseratis during the Olympics?! Other than that, I was very entertained by watching and really want to listen to the recordings. Wow, that story really had no point, did it?
MOVING ON... to fashion! I've discovered through Polyvore a new trend: Peter Pan collars. I think they're adorable and I'm going to post some cute outfits and dresses, shirts, etc. right this minute! Enjoy.
        (looks good with stripes, no?)

Thank Jolly Gum for Air Conditioning!

OK, I am aware this is just about the understatement of the century, but it is hot. Very, VERY hot. So hot all my clothes are sticky, my hair is a disaster zone of frizz and humid curls, and my face is completely flushed. So this post's purpose is to (1) vent about the 90+ degree weather we've had (and DEVOID of air conditioning at school), and (2) create a fashion post for ways to stay cool on a really hot day. So voila! Here you go, and remember to wear light colors!
OUTFIT #1:
*John Lemon shirt (haha, Tess):
*ORANGE jean shorts; oh yeah:
*Yellow Converse high-tops with kewly design (I really wish that these weren't high-tops because they aren't exactly ideal for scorching days like today, but oh well):
*Polka-dotty bangles:
*C'est-adorable-oui? burnt orange flower hair clip:

OUTFIT #2:
*Plain ol' white polo shirt:
* Cool polka-dotty tie:
*Jean shorts:
*Striped pink and green belt so as to spice up the shorts a tad:
*Pink-soled canvas Vans sneakers (I know these are Nicole Vad's favorites!):
*Rainbow-striped barrettes, so to stay with the whole stripes theme:

And that's all for now, folks! I hope you've taken to mind these fashions and can get inspired by them to use your own creativity. See you guys and stay nutty like cashews...
